Alternatives to Hydrogen Peroxide for Cuts

When it comes to wound treatment, hydrogen peroxide is not the only option. Here are several items that can be used to replace hydrogen peroxide in wound treatment.

The first is normal saline. Its osmotic pressure is similar to that of human cell fluid, and it is very irritating to wounds. Dip a sterile cotton ball in an appropriate amount of normal saline and gently wipe the wound, which can effectively remove dirt, foreign bodies and bacteria on the surface of the wound, keep the wound clean, and create a good environment for wound healing. It is often used for the initial cleaning of various wounds.

Second is iodophor, which is a widely used disinfectant with strong bactericidal ability and can kill most bacteria, viruses and fungi. When used, iodophor is applied to the wound and its surrounding skin to form a protective film to prevent wound infection. Iodophor is less irritating to the skin and mucous membranes and is suitable for most wounds. Whether it is a small abrasion or a slightly larger laceration, it can be disinfected with iodophor.

There is also medical alcohol, which has a bactericidal effect, but because of its strong irritation, it is generally only suitable for disinfection of intact skin. If used on damaged wounds, it will cause obvious pain. Therefore, it is only used on intact skin around the wound to reduce the risk of wound infection.

When treating a wound, it is necessary to choose a suitable substitute according to the specific condition of the wound to ensure that the wound is properly treated and promote healing.
