Ammonia and hydrogen bromide have different properties. Ammonia has a clear color and pungent taste. It is often gaseous. It dissolves in water and becomes alkaline. Its molecules contain nitrogen and hydrogen, and interact with water to generate ammonium ions and hydroxide ions.

In contrast, hydrogen bromide is also gaseous, but its taste is pungent and acidic. When dissolved in water, it forms hydrobromic acid, which is strongly acidic. Compared with the two, ammonia can form salts when it encounters acid. If it encounters hydrogen chloride, it will quickly reduce the white smoke of ammonium chloride. Hydrogen bromide, on the other hand, is easy to form salts when it encounters alkali. If it combines with sodium hydroxide, it will produce sodium bromide and water.

When it comes to chemical activity, bromine in hydrogen bromide is highly oxidizing, and it can be found to be active in specific reactions. Although ammonia can also participate in various reactions, its reaction mechanism is different from that of hydrogen bromide.
