An Example Of A Hydrogen Bond Is The Bond Between

An example of hydrogen bonding
is a special interaction between molecules or within molecules. Although its force is weaker than the covalent bond, it has a huge impact on the structure and properties of the substance.

For example, in water, there are hydrogen bonds between water molecules. The bond between the hydrogen atom of a water molecule and the oxygen atom of a water molecule is an example of hydrogen bonding. The formation of this bond is caused by the covalent combination of hydrogen atoms and electronegative atoms (such as oxygen). After the hydrogen atom is covalently combined, the electron cloud outside the nucleus of the hydrogen atom is biased towards the electronegative large atom, causing the hydrogen atom to be partially positively charged, and then attracts the electronegative large atom containing lone pairs of electrons in another molecule to form a hydrogen bond.

If ammonia molecules also have hydrogen bonds. In ammonia molecules, hydrogen is connected to nitrogen, which is slightly positively charged and can interact with lone pairs of electrons on the nitrogen atom of other ammonia molecules to form hydrogen bonds.

Hydrogen bonds are reflected in the physical and chemical properties of many substances. If the boiling point of water is raised, the density of ice is less than that of water, etc., it is also crucial in biological systems. For example, the structure of proteins and nucleic acids is maintained by hydrogen bonds.
