Second, the preparation of materials
If you want to perform this operation, you must have all materials. For the choice of electrodes, corrosion-resistant materials such as graphite or platinum should be used to prevent corrosion during electrolysis. The power supply needs to be stable and can supply a suitable voltage, usually ranging from several volts to tens of volts, depending on the situation. A container is required to hold the electrolyte. This device must be resistant to acid and alkali, glass or plastic. And the electrolyte is also exquisite. A dilute solution of sulfuric acid or sodium hydroxide is commonly used to increase the conductivity of water and help the speed of electrolysis.

Third, the order of operation
Wash the container first and fill it with an appropriate amount of electrolyte. The secondary electrode is placed in the liquid, and the two poles are moderately apart, so do not touch each other. Then connect the power supply and adjust the voltage and current. Not long after, it can be seen that there are bubbles at the electrode, and the hydrogen bubbles come out of the cathode, floating lightly. When collecting, you can use the method of draining and collecting gas, and place the inverted bottle at the cathode. When the bottle is full of gas, the hydrogen will be obtained.

Fourth, pay attention to the item
Homemade hydrogen, safety is the most important thing. Hydrogen is flammable and explosive, so the source of fire must be eliminated where it is operated. In addition, during electrolysis, do not touch the electrodes and circuits to prevent the risk of electric shock. The electrolyte is corrosive. If it gets on your body, flush it with water quickly, and seek medical attention for those who are serious. After the operation, when the power is cut off, properly dispose of the materials for later use. In this way, the self-made hydrogen can be made, and it can be kept safe.
