Do Bases Produce Hydrogen Ions

Do alkalis produce hydrogen ions?

The world has asked me: "Can alkalis produce hydrogen ions?" I said to him: "Alkalis release more hydroxide ions in water. However, water itself can be weakly ionized, generating hydrogen ions and hydroxide ions. Although alkalis increase the concentration of hydroxide ions, causing the ionization equilibrium of water to shift, hydrogen ions still exist."

It is well known that acids in water are prone to release hydrogen ions, while alkalis do not. Bases are mostly hydrogen-releasing ions. However, the ionization of water is a dynamic equilibrium, and if alkali is added to water, although this equilibrium shifts, hydrogen ions remain.

Therefore, although the alkali is not obvious by hydrogen ions, there are indeed hydrogen ions in the aqueous solution due to the ionization of water, and it cannot be said that there are no hydrogen ions in the environment where the alkali is located.
