For hydrogen energy, its energy density is quite high. Hydrogen is light in weight, but it contains a lot of energy. In terms of unit mass, the energy stored in hydrogen far exceeds that of other batteries. Because hydrogen can be efficiently released during combustion or electrochemical reactions, it can be a source of power. For example, the hydrogen fuel cell in the car is made of hydrogen, and the generated electricity drives the vehicle, which has a long battery life. And the combustion product of hydrogen is only water, clean and unstained, and has obvious advantages in the environment of environmental protection.

In contrast, although there are many types of batteries, the energy density is not as good as that. Although lithium-ion batteries are commonly used, their energy storage per unit mass is limited. Every long-distance trip, the power is exhausted, the charging time is long, and the battery life is short, which is often a concern for users. And the manufacture and disposal of batteries also pose environmental problems.

However, the promotion of hydrogen energy also has difficulties. Its production, storage and transportation require high capital and advanced techniques. The production of hydrogen, or the use of electrolyzed water, consumes huge energy; storage requires high pressure and low temperature, and the equipment is complicated; transportation is not easy, and pipeline construction costs are high. The battery technology, honed over the years, has gradually matured, is widely used, and the cost is controllable. It is also difficult to abandon it at the moment.

Therefore, weighing the advantages and disadvantages of hydrogen energy and battery energy density, and the advantages and disadvantages of the two, should be based on the situation and demand. For long-distance and heavy-duty transportation, hydrogen energy has great potential; for daily short-distance and convenient use, batteries can still be competent. The two develop in parallel and complement each other, which is a good strategy for energy utilization.
