In recent years, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles have come to the fore. Its principle is novel and has extraordinary potential, pointing out a new way for the future of transportation power.

The hydrogen fuel cell is actually a device that efficiently converts chemical energy into electrical energy. Its core structure is mostly composed of proton exchange membranes, electrodes (including anode and cathode) and catalysts.

At the anode, hydrogen is catalyzed and decomposed into protons and electrons. Electrons form an electric current through an external circuit, which then powers the driving motor of the car, makes it run, and propels the vehicle forward; while protons pass through the proton exchange membrane and move to the cathode.

At the same time, at the cathode, oxygen gets electrons, which combine with protons from the anode to generate water. In this process, only water is produced, no harmful emissions are produced, and the environmental protection effect is significant.

Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles have many advantages. First, the energy conversion efficiency is quite high, which is far better than traditional internal combustion engine vehicles. Second, its power output is stable and strong, which can bring a comfortable experience to drivers and passengers. Third, the charging time is short, which can greatly reduce the waiting time and improve travel efficiency compared with some pure electric vehicles.

To make hydrogen fuel cell vehicles popular in the world, it also faces various challenges. First, the cost of hydrogen production is high. Whether it is fossil fuel reforming to produce hydrogen or water electrolysis to produce hydrogen, better technology is required to reduce costs. Second, the lack of hydrogen refueling infrastructure, the construction of hydrogen refueling stations requires huge capital and technical support, and it is difficult to widely install in the short term.

Despite many obstacles, science and technology evolve continuously. With time, when technological breakthroughs, costs are reduced, and infrastructure is complete, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles may be able to shine in the transportation sector and lead the new trend of green travel.
