How Hydrogen Is Manufactured

"On the Production of Hydrogen"

Hydrogen is the lightest and purest thing in the world, and the method of its production is related to many things.

The method of its production involves the method of reforming fossil fuels. This is a process in which fossil fuels, such as natural gas and coal, are mixed with water vapor and catalyzed at high temperature. In the meantime, the carbon in the fossil fuel reacts with water vapor to produce carbon monoxide and hydrogen. After the carbon monoxide is changed and reacted with water vapor, the output of hydrogen is increased, and the amount of carbon monoxide is reduced.

There is also a method of hydrolysis. This is a process that uses electricity as a driving force to decompose water. In the electrolytic cell, direct current is used, and the water undergoes oxidation and reduction reactions at the yin and yang poles respectively. At the anode, the water loses electrons and generates oxygen; at the cathode, the water gains electrons and generates hydrogen. The hydrogen produced by this method has a high purity, but it consumes a lot of electricity and costs a lot.

There are also biological hydrogen production methods. Thanks to the metabolic activities of microorganisms, in a suitable environment, organic matter is used as the substrate for fermentation or photosynthesis to produce hydrogen. This way is green and environmentally friendly, and has great potential. However, the technology is still in the development stage, and the efficiency needs to be improved.

In summary, each method of hydrogen production has its advantages and disadvantages. It is necessary to choose appropriate methods according to actual needs, resource conditions and cost considerations to promote the wide application and development of hydrogen.
