How Long to Rinse with Hydrogen Peroxide

On the length of rinsing with hydrogen peroxide
Where rinsing with hydrogen peroxide, the length of time is very critical. Hydrogen peroxide has the effect of disinfection and sterilization, but when used improperly, it may cause oral discomfort and damage oral health.

Generally speaking, rinsing with hydrogen peroxide is appropriate for about 1 to 3 minutes. At the beginning of use, the concentration should be dilute, about 3% hydrogen peroxide, and it is better to dilute it with water in a ratio of 1:1 or 1:2. When first rinsing, you can rinse for about 1 minute to moisturize all corners of the mouth, so that the hydrogen peroxide can fully interact with oral bacteria and food residues. If the oral condition is OK and there is no strong stimulation, it can be increased to 2 to 3 minutes one by one.

However, it should be noted that the rinsing time should not be too long. If you rinse your mouth with peroxide for a long time, because of its strong oxidation, or damage the oral mucosa, cause mucosal redness, swelling, pain, and even destroy the balance of oral flora. The inherent beneficial flora in the mouth is crucial to maintaining the stability of the oral microecology, and the flora is unbalanced, or it may lead to many oral diseases.

Furthermore, individuals have different oral conditions and different tolerances to hydrogen peroxide. The elderly and infirm, people with sensitive oral mucosa, may need to shorten the rinsing time appropriately, and should pay more attention to the dilution ratio to prevent discomfort.

Gargling with peroxide, when carefully controlled for a long time, can achieve the purpose of cleaning the mouth and preventing diseases according to personal oral conditions, without damaging oral health.
