How Many Neutrons Does Hydrogen Have

Hydrogen is the first element. Everyone knows that the nucleus of hydrogen has a proton, but the number of neutrons is very different.

Ordinary hydrogen, called protium, has only one proton in its nucleus and no neutrons, which is the simplest form of hydrogen.

However, hydrogen also has variants, one is deuterium. In addition to a proton, the nucleus contains a neutron, so its mass is slightly greater than that of protium. Deuterium is common in heavy water and is widely used in nuclear physics and chemistry.

Another is tritium, which is a radioactive isotope of hydrogen. There are one proton and two neutrons in the nucleus. Due to its radioactivity, it is rare in nature and plays an important role in nuclear energy research and some special applications.

In summary, the number of neutrons in hydrogen varies from isotope to isotope. Protium has no neutrons, deuterium has one neutron, and tritium contains two neutrons.
