How To Remove Ammonia From Water

Ways to remove ammonia from water

Water contains ammonia, which is harmful to humans and animals. If you want to remove it, there are three ways.

First, the method of boiling. Put water in a kettle and boil on fire. Ammonia is volatile, and when water boils, ammonia escapes with water vapor. However, this method takes a long time, consumes fuel, and when the amount of water is large, it is inconvenient to operate.

Second, the method of chemical precipitation. Appropriate amounts of agents can be administered, such as magnesium chloride and sodium hydroxide. The two react with ammonia to form magnesium hydroxide precipitation and sodium chloride. The ammonia then goes with the precipitation, and the water is clear. However, the dosage must be precise, otherwise it may cause water harm.

Third, the method of adsorption. Use activated carbon, zeolite and other substances. Such substances have a porous structure and can absorb ammonia. When it is placed in water, the ammonia is absorbed, and the amount of ammonia in the water is reduced. However, the adsorption capacity of the adsorbent is limited, and it must be replaced regularly to ensure the effect.

To remove ammonia from water, depending on the purpose of the water, the content of ammonia and the actual conditions, choose a suitable method to maintain the purity of the water and benefit humans and animals.
