Hydrogen Bonding Example

Hydrogen bonding example
Between heaven and earth, everything has its own reason, and the wonders of hydrogen bonding also exist in it.

The hydrogen bond is an unusual bond. Take water as an example. In water molecules, hydrogen and oxygen are on a blind date, and one end of hydrogen is slightly positive, and the other end of oxygen is slightly negative. When water molecules come together, the hydrogen of one water molecule and the oxygen of other water molecules are attracted by electric charges, which is like a hydrogen bond.

It is like everyone working together, and hydrogen bonds connect water molecules. Therefore, the boiling point of water is quite high, because it takes energy to break this hydrogen bond. Ice floating in water is also due to the work of hydrogen bonds. When water freezes, hydrogen bonds are arranged in an orderly manner, causing the spacing of water molecules to increase slightly, the volume to expand, and the density to decrease, so it floats on the water surface.

Looking at many organic matter, among alcohols, the hydrogen of hydroxyl groups and the oxygen of neighboring molecules also have hydrogen bonds. It is because the boiling point of alcohols is higher than that of hydrocarbons with similar molecular masses. Hydrocarbons do not have such hydrogen bonds, and the molecules are only connected by a weak force. With the help of hydrogen bonds, the molecules of alcohols come together more tightly, and more heat is required to gasify them.

From this perspective, although hydrogen bonds are small, they have a profound impact on the changes in the state and physical properties of all things. In the microscopic world, such as silk threads connecting beads, they string together molecules, showing the wonder of nature.
