First of all, the hydrogen production process. At present, most hydrogen comes from the reforming of fossil fuels, which requires a large amount of non-renewable energy and releases greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. If natural gas is reformed to produce hydrogen, although hydrogen can be obtained, it will increase carbon emissions and contribute to global warming. Only by electrolyzing water to produce hydrogen from renewable energy can the production of low-carbon or even zero-carbon hydrogen be truly realized. However, this technology is expensive and has not yet been widely popularized.

Second view of the use stage of hydrogen fuel cells. Although it only produces water during operation, it does not have pollutants such as nitrogen oxides and particulate matter in the exhaust of traditional fuel vehicles, and has significant effects on improving air quality and reducing urban smog. However, it should be noted that the manufacturing process of hydrogen fuel cells involves rare metals, such as platinum, etc. Its mining and refining may cause certain damage to the environment, and such metal resources are limited, excessive dependence or risk of resource shortage.

Furthermore, hydrogen fuel cell infrastructure building is also related to the environment. The construction of hydrogen refueling stations requires land, and related equipment manufacturing, transportation and other links consume energy and generate waste. If the planning and construction are not good, it may have a negative impact on the surrounding ecological environment.

Overall, although hydrogen fuel cells have the potential to be clean and efficient, their impact on the environment has both advantages and disadvantages. In order to give full play to its advantages and reduce the negative impact, it is necessary to make efforts in the whole industrial chain of hydrogen production, battery manufacturing, infrastructure building, etc., increase the research and development of renewable energy hydrogen production technology, improve the utilization efficiency of rare metals, and optimize the planning and layout of infrastructure. Only in this way can hydrogen fuel cells be stable and far-reaching on the road of environmental protection, and contribute to the sustainable development of mankind.
