Hydrogen Neutral Atom or Ion

Hydrogen is the first element. The world has asked, is hydrogen a neutral atom, or an ion?

The atom of hydrogen contains only one proton and one electron. Under normal circumstances, electrons travel around the proton and are electrically neutral, which is the neutral atomic state of hydrogen. At this time, the positive electricity carried by the proton and the negative electricity carried by the electron are offset, and the whole is not electrical.

However, hydrogen can also change its state to an ion. If a hydrogen atom loses one electron, only the proton is left. At this time, it carries a unit positive charge and becomes a hydrogen ion. Hydrogen ions are quite active in many chemical reactions and are often seen in the dissociation process of acids.

Conversely, if a hydrogen atom gains an extra electron, it carries a unit negative charge and becomes a negatively charged hydrogen ion. Although this situation is not common, it can also exist under certain conditions.

Therefore, hydrogen can be a neutral atom, but it can also be converted into an ion depending on the environment and reaction. The change of its state is of crucial significance in many fields of chemistry and physics.
