Hydrogen Peroxide Usage in Aquarium

On the Use of Hydrogen Peroxide in Aquariums

Water quality is essential for aquariums. Hydrogen peroxide is worth exploring in aquariums.

Hydrogen peroxide has strong oxidizing properties. It can be used reasonably in aquariums, and it may be beneficial. First, it can increase dissolved oxygen in water. Aquatic organisms depend on oxygen for growth, and they thrive in an oxygen-appropriate environment. When there is insufficient dissolved oxygen in water, appropriate amount of hydrogen peroxide is added, which decomposes and produces oxygen, which can supplement it, making aquatic organisms swim freely and have an orderly metabolism.

Second, it can purify water quality. In aquariums, there will be dirt and algae breeding for a long time, causing water quality to deteriorate. Hydrogen peroxide can oxidize and decompose some organic impurities, remove odors from water, and make the water clear. The multiplication of algae can also suppress it, and keep the aquarium view fresh.

It is also necessary to be cautious when using it. Hydrogen peroxide is strongly oxidizing, and if the dosage is not appropriate, it will harm aquatic organisms. If the dosage is too much, its strong oxidizing effect can damage fish gills and body surface mucosa, cause fish body discomfort, and even endanger life. Therefore, before using it, the dosage must be carefully studied.

When you want to use it, first measure the volume of the aquarium water body. According to the amount of water body, set the amount of hydrogen peroxide. Usually, a few drops per liter of water are appropriate, and the initial use can be less, depending on the effect. When administering medicine, it should be slow, scattered all over the water body, and do not gather together.

After administering medicine, closely observe the state of aquatic organisms. If the fish is uneasy and swimming abnormally, change the water quickly and dilute it to reduce the concentration of hydrogen peroxide. And after use, it is advisable to increase the flow of water to help it decompose evenly, and also facilitate the distribution of dissolved oxygen.

Aquarium use hydrogen peroxide, need to weigh the pros and cons, and operate cautiously. Make good use of it, the water quality will be clear, the biology will be healthy, and the aquarium will be beautiful.
