Hydrogen Peroxide Use on Cats Safety

On the safety of hydrogen peroxide for cats

There are cat owners in the world, who often encounter cats eating poisons by mistake. Smelling hydrogen peroxide can induce vomiting and detoxification, so they are suspicious: Hydrogen peroxide is used for cats, is it safe?

Hydrogen peroxide has strong oxidizing properties. For medical use, it is often used for wound disinfection. However, it is used in cats and cannot be ignored.

The physiology of cats is different from that of humans. Its digestive system and metabolic function are unique. If hydrogen peroxide is applied to cats rashly, it may cause burns to the mouth and throat. Because of its strong oxidation, it touches the mucous membranes and can cause tissue damage, causing pain and redness.

And after a cat eats a poison by mistake, using hydrogen peroxide to induce vomiting is not a surefire solution. Although it can stimulate the gastric mucosa and cause vomiting, if used improperly, or the poison has entered the intestines, it will induce vomiting and cause the poison to reflux, burn the esophagus, or even cause aspiration pneumonia, endangering the cat's life.

If a cat eats a poison by mistake, take the cat to the veterinarian as soon as possible. The veterinarian can make professional diagnosis and treatment according to the type of poison and the symptoms of the cat. Or use gastric lavage to rinse the stomach with an appropriate solution to remove the poison; or use detoxifying agents to neutralize the toxicity.

Cat owners should understand that the health of cats is related to the relationship between host and guest. Do not make any claims regarding the safety of hydrogen peroxide for cats. Be sure to follow the veterinarian's advice and protect cats in a scientific and prudent manner before raising cats.
