Hydrogen Peroxide Wound Effects

On the effect of hydrogen peroxide on wounds
Healing in the world, hydrogen peroxide is a commonly used thing. However, what is the effect on wounds should be discussed in detail.

Hydrogen peroxide, the chemical name hydrogen peroxide, decomposes and releases new oxygen when it encounters catalase in tissues. This oxygen has strong oxidizing power and can cause bacterial protein denaturation, membrane structure damage, and achieve the effect of disinfection and sterilization. In superficial wounds, it can remove stains and purify filth, kill common bacteria, such as staphylococcus, streptococcus, etc., and prevent the growth of infections.

However, using hydrogen peroxide on wounds has both advantages and disadvantages. Although its strong oxidation can sterilize, it can also harm normal tissue cells. Newborn oxygen can cause lipid peroxidation in local tissue cells, damage cell membranes and organelles, and hinder wound healing. And its decomposition produces gas, which can cause infection and spread in deep wounds, or cause emphysema.

Therefore, use hydrogen peroxide to treat wounds, when evaluating the situation. For shallow and clean small wounds, use it moderately to clean and prevent infection. However, in deep, complex wounds, or those with larger wounds, caution should be taken, or other methods should be used to avoid accidental wounds and promote early wound healing.
