HydrogenPeroxide Alcohol Disinfectant Comparison

The comparison of peroxide and alcohol disinfectants
The method of disinfection is related to people's livelihood and health. Peroxide disinfectants and alcohol disinfectants are commonly used. The two have their own strengths and limitations, and now they are compared in detail.

Hydrogen peroxide belongs to peroxide. The reason for its disinfection is that it can release new oxygen when it encounters organic matter or enzymes. This oxygen has strong oxidizing properties and can break the cell wall and membrane of bacteria, destroy its protein and nucleic acid structure, and then achieve the effect of sterilization. Its broad spectrum of properties has the power of killing bacterial propagates, spores, viruses, fungi, etc. And the decomposed products are water and oxygen, which are free of pollution and are widely used in food processing, medical equipment disinfection and many other fields. However, its stability is not good, and it is easy to decompose under light and heat, so it needs to be properly stored in a cool, dark and ventilated place. High concentrations are corrosive and can damage the skin and mucous membranes, so they must be carefully diluted when used.

Alcohol disinfectant, based on ethanol. Its mechanism of action is to coagulate and denature bacterial proteins, interfering with their metabolism, thereby sterilizing. Ethanol has strong bactericidal power and rapid effect, and can quickly kill most bacterial propagates and some viruses. It is often used for skin disinfection, surface wiping of medical apparatus, etc. However, its killing effect on spores and fungal spores is limited. And ethanol is flammable, and it must be stored and used away from fire sources to prevent fire. At the same time, high concentrations of ethanol can cause dry and chapped skin, and frequent use can irritate the skin.

In comparison, hydrogen peroxide has a wide disinfection spectrum, no pollution, and is suitable for disinfection of a variety of items; alcohol disinfectants act quickly, which is convenient for skin and some equipment disinfection. However, both have shortcomings. Users should weigh the advantages and disadvantages according to the needs of the scene and the object, and choose the appropriate disinfectant to achieve the best disinfection effect and ensure the safety of the environment and the person.
