Is Hydrogen Peroxide Polar

Whether hydrogen peroxide has polarity is an important topic in the field of chemistry. The molecular structure of hydrogen peroxide is shaped like a book page, and the two hydrogen atoms and the two oxygen atoms are not in the same plane. Oxygen atoms have high electronegativity and strong ability to attract electrons in molecules. The electron cloud between hydrogen and oxygen bonds is biased towards the oxygen atom, causing the hydrogen terminal to be positively charged, and the oxygen terminal to be negatively charged.

And the polarity vectors of the two hydrogen and oxygen bonds cannot cancel each other out because of the asymmetric structure of the molecule. From this point of view, the hydrogen peroxide molecule has a situation where the positive and negative charge centers do not coincide, so it can be concluded that it is a polar molecule. This polarity characteristic has a great influence on the physical and chemical properties of hydrogen peroxide, and its solubility and reactivity are reflected.
