Reasons to Avoid Hydrogen Peroxide

"Do not use hydrogen peroxide"

Although hydrogen peroxide may have the effect of cleaning and sterilizing in the eyes of ordinary people, there are many reasons to avoid it.

First, it damages tissue. Hydrogen peroxide is highly oxidizing. When it comes into contact with a wound, although it can sterilize, it will also cause damage to surrounding healthy tissues. If used in delicate areas of the skin, it is easy to damage surrounding normal cells and delay the healing process of wounds.

Second, it hinders healing. Wound healing has its own complex mechanism, and the strong oxidation of hydrogen peroxide can disrupt this process. Although the oxygen bubbles produced by its decomposition seem to clean the wound, they actually destroy the newly formed granulation tissue at the wound, causing delayed healing and even leaving more obvious scars.

Third, the risk of infection. Frequent use of hydrogen peroxide may change the local microenvironment of the wound and destroy the balance of the original beneficial bacteria. Beneficial bacteria are inhibited, and harmful bacteria may take the opportunity to breed, which increases the chance of infection.

Fourth, allergic reactions. Some people are allergic to hydrogen peroxide, which may cause skin redness, swelling, itching, tingling and other allergic symptoms after use. In severe cases, it may even cause a systemic allergic reaction, endangering health.

To sum up, many reasons show that hydrogen peroxide is not an ideal wound treatment agent. For daily treatment of wounds, more suitable methods and medicines should be selected to promote good wound healing.
