Ways to Make Hydrogen
The method of hydrogen production
If you want to make hydrogen, there are different ways. First, it can be obtained by electrolysis of water. In water, hydrogen and oxygen are combined. The electrode is placed in the water, and an electric current is passed, and the water molecules are precipitated. The anode produces oxygen, and the cathode produces hydrogen. This way requires electricity. If you get cheap electricity, such as from solar and wind energy, it is economical.
Second, reforming hydrogen from fossil fuels. Such as methane, a common fossil gas. It reacts with water vapor at high temperature and under the action of a catalyst to generate carbon monoxide and hydrogen. However, this process produces carbon dioxide, which may be unfavorable to the environment. To reduce its harm, it needs to be supplemented by carbon capture.
There is also a biological method of hydrogen production. Some microorganisms, in a specific environment, can decompose organic matter to produce hydrogen. This way is green and natural, but the technology is not mature and the yield is still low, which needs to be improved.
